Technology has changed the entire scenario and today, man is enjoying the fruits of technology in many ways. In olden times, it was not possible for a person to understand the benefits of various natural elements. However, with the passage of time, things have changed and in fact, they have taken a turn for the best. Today, one can enjoy the benefits of technology and can make use of many natural resources. One of the best examples of recycling and usage of natural resources is “solar energy”. Solar energy plays a crucial role in many ways.

Homemade solar panels are a new trend these days. The majority of people all over the world prefer homemade solar panels since these panels save a lot of electricity. If you ponder over this seriously, then you would understand that the prices of electricity is increasing like everything else and during this time of recession, it is really very important for us to save some money and be on budget. Many people today save money in order to get good alternatives and therefore, saving natural resources also is something very important. When you save electricity, you save a lot of energy. Solar energy is one of the best ways to save a lot of energy in today’s modern world where pollution is at it’s peak.

A Solar panel converts solar energy into electricity. It is very simple to build solar panels at home. You can make your solar panels easily with very simple items. Below are various steps:

  • Clean the copper flashing plate thoroughly. Use sandpaper to remove any corrosion from it. Now cut it to the size of your electric burner.
  • Now turn the burner on with the copper flashing on it. Heat it for as long as 30 mins until a layer of thick black cupric oxide is formed.
  • Now let it cool until the cupric oxide layer begins to peel.
  • Now try to scrub the copper flashing plate gently and thoroughly under running water to remove any traces of the oxide. But you must make sure that the red cuprous oxide is not scrubbed off.
  • Now cut another piece of copper flashing in the same size. Cut the tops of a 2 liter wide mouthed plastic bottle or glass jar. Use the alligator clips to attach the two panels and place them inside the jar or the bottle in such a way that they fit along the curves and do not touch each other.
  • Connect the cuprous oxide plate to the negative terminal and the copper plate to the positive terminal of the meter.
  • Fill the bottle with a solution of water and salt leaving the clips dry and high.
  • Now place this solar panel in the sun and see the results.

Thus building solar panels at home is not only easy but also very quick and safe.  When you build your own solar panel at your home, you will understand that this is one of the best ways to save a lot of energy and money.
